The factions giveth and the factions taketh away.

Isn’t it ironic that the two dumped ALP ministers, Mark Dreyfus and Ed Husic, are arguably more competent and experienced than the two aspiring Liberal leadership candidates, Sussan Ley and Angus Taylor?
Kevin Burke, Sandringham, Vic
I doubt too many voters will be crying about Mark Dreyfus’s demise. He might be a long-term politician but as attorney-general he has been no shining light. I doubt he will be missed.
John George, Terrigal, NSW
Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles has certainly diminished his chances of ever becoming prime minister. His key role in ousting Ed Husic, the lone Muslim in cabinet, will not sit well with the thousands of voters who now rightly expect the Albanese government to do much more in helping to bring justice to the Palestinian people.
Mark Chapman, Buderim, Qld
Now that the cabinet is settled, is it too much to hope Richard Marles might actually do something about our non-existent defence policy, or is he going to confine his military duties to a few more assassinations?
Paul Harris, Mosman, NSW
Whatever the outcome of the Taylor-Ley leadership contest, Australia needs Jacinta Nampijinpa Price in the deputy role. Leave factions to Labor.
Alex Cleave, Fremantle, WA
If the Coalition must play snap cards on gender politics, enter into the spirit of things and play a Sussan Ley and Jacinta Nampijinpa Price leadership team.

For Trump, the new American Pope comes as divine intervention. He can now pass off his 10 per cent tariffs as tithes.

It will be interesting to see how Monique Ryan goes sitting in her office in Parliament House with little to do now she no longer has any power.

The US brokering peace resolutions with Israel/Iran proxies, Russia/Ukraine, India/Pakistan, South China Sea countries, the list goes on. Where does the UN fit in?
John Field, Coolum Beach, Qld
The Liberal campaign against nuclear is as illogical as Labor’s for renewables. As more coal-fired stations are closed, the baseload capacity reduces and needs to be replaced, but renewables are not suitable.
R. Watson, Sunnybank Hills, Qld
