Last Post: Sinwar, time management and a blue-banded bee

Let this be a message to Hamas and its medieval fellow travellers’ futile rage against enlightenment and progress: Throwing a stick at a drone is your last, empty hope.

Gareth Davies, McCracken, SA

Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s death came as a bit of a surprise, as many thought he might be living in Canberra on a temporary visa.

It was the UN, including Iran, that gave Israel its assent to become a nation in its own right in 1948, when Israel was immediately set upon militarily by five neighbouring countries: Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. The UN, unfortunately, did not intervene and instead has become far more anti-Israel and a useless organisation that perpetuates anti-Semitism.

John Bicknell, Bargo, NSW

Footage released by the Israeli Defence Forces showed Yahya Sinwar was in possession of a passport in which the holder is described as an “UNRWA teacher”. The bleeding hearts who declare UNRWA to be lily white and slam Israel for its allegations of UNRWA complicity with Hamas should pause to reconsider

David Grinston, Crows Nest, NSW

The Hindmarsh Island bridge fiasco terminated federal Aboriginal affairs minister Robert Tickner’s political career in 1996. Will the blue-banded bee do the same for Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek?

Ian Bernadt, Swanbourne, WA

The Prime Minister’s scheduling conflict that prevents him from attending the inauguration of Indonesia’s new President is regrettable (“Albanese stuffs up diary royally”, 18/10). Anthony Albanese has been a bit distracted lately in dealing with his property portfolio. Maybe he should invest in one of those self-help books on time management.

Dennis Walker, North Melbourne, Vic

Anthony Albanese can spend his own money on whatever he wants, a new house if that fits his agenda, but it’s the way he spends other people’s money, taxpayers’ hard-earned cash, that should be scrutinised.

Peter Wargent, Mosman, NSW

If Australia and the US are unhappy with the British decision to surrender suzerainty over the Chagos Islands, imagine how the Falklanders must feel about it. Britain is clearly back under a traditional Labour government – one always ready to spring to the task of dismantling the pitiful remnants of the empire.

Terry Birchley, Bundaberg, Qld
