Last Post: Pesutto on the ropes, Albanese’s mess and the land puzzle
It’s good to see John Pesutto is on the ropes. His treatment of Moira Deeming was not fitting for anyone in a position of authority. It is difficult to see the Victorian Liberal Party regaining a reputation for integrity for quite some time.

It’s hard to know who is more pathetic. Adam Bandt, who thinks he is influencing the ALP, or the people who believe that he is some sort of messiah (“ALP ‘slowly’ going green over Israel”, 24/12).

Nick Cater’s column in The Australian on Monday should be mandatory reading for the diehards who don’t believe the mess that Anthony Albanese has presided over (“ ‘Gunna-do’ PM’s grandiose plans vanish in the wind”, 23/12)

I can’t decide if this Labor government is delusional or dishonest. Sadly, Nick Cater’s article hints at both. The only kind of superpower Australia is likely to become under Labor is as an employer of public regulators.

How many Russian and Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and wounded during the Russian-Ukrainian war? Can someone in Russia stop Vladimir Putin?

It’s interesting to see the Australian POW in Ukraine called a mercenary, which generally implies a hired gun. Does anybody think that the people who swarmed to Spain in 1936 to fight Franco, were mercenaries? No, they were trying to ward off evil, as is the case in Ukraine.

I think we should all be puzzled. We have housing and land shortages in the sixth-largest country on earth where one would expect oversupply of land. It’s the only thing we have – land and natural resources. But builders? We can’t get them.

The disposal of nuclear waste should not be a problem. Dig large caverns in the desert and line it with artificial granite, similar to kitchen bench tops. Artificial granite lasts for millions of years.

Timothy Lynch’s column on Monday was excellent and clearly explained how Ireland and its government has slowly moved to the left and now is in direct legal conflict with Israel. It seems to me that the Australian government is also slowly following that path.
