Last Post: Opposing net zero makes economic sense
I hope Adelaide wins COP31. The sight of tens of thousands of delegates arriving by yacht, canoe and the odd one swimming will be a sight to behold. I will be at Glenelg to cheer them in.
Jenny Morison, Forrest, ACT
The Coalition does not need to oppose net zero to win government. The Coalition needs to oppose net zero because it is a disastrous policy for the economy, environment and national security.
Peter O’Brien, Kiama, NSW
Community support for net zero is comparable to earlier support for Covid lockdowns and the voice. It will take the Coalition more than one electoral cycle to win over a majority of Australians. The question is whether Coalition MPs and party members are sufficiently patient to persevere. Or will opportunities for self-harm prove irresistible?
Keith Mackay, Campbell, ACT
Can anyone explain the logic of our exported emissions not being included in our net-zero calculations?
Ron Marlborough, Attadale, WA
With COP30 in Belem morphing into an international grievance protest central, is it really worth spending more than $1bn of Australian taxpayer money to provide an irresistible opportunity for professional activists to create mayhem in Adelaide during COP31?
Jim Taylor, Brisbane
So what the activists said is true then: climate change does lead to job loss. Just look at the 350 lost at the CSIRO.
Rosemary McGrath, Kensington, SA
Jess Wilson has drawn a line in the sand and insists the Liberal Party now is match fit to fight Labor, but will Victorians be able to get their heads out of the sand and realise it’s time for a change (“Wilson’s blueprint to take down the Premier”, 19/11)?
Ross McDonald, Gordon, NSW
Linda Reynolds and Fiona Brown have been treated shamefully. Unpleasant though the experience would be, Anthony Albanese has a responsibility to spend a little of the political capital he has accumulated to ensure these two women receive justice (“Libs won’t rest till ‘Mean Girls’ say sorry”, 19/11).
Terry Birchley, Bundaberg, Qld
The fact that our government is devastating millions of lives should be in huge bold letters (“Insolvencies running at their highest level since pandemic”, 18/11). How can the representatives of the people just blithely continue with their cruel, destructive policies?
Case Smit, Noosaville, Qld
