Last Post: October 7, Ned Kelly, Hezbollah and the Greens

To restore Labor’s credibility, Anthony Albanese needs to replace his Foreign Minister. Don’t hold your breath.

Peter R. Graham, Sydney

Does anyone seriously believe the words of support for Israel, dragged so reluctantly after so long from the mouths of Anthony Albanese and Richard Marles, are sincere?

Robyn Manoy, Darling Point, NSW

Did Sunday’s protesters share your “Australian values”, Albo?

David Robertson, Red Hill, ACT

When the citizens of a country are murdered, butchered, kidnapped, raped and tortured, can someone define what a “proportionate response” should be?

Owen Reid, Dunlop, ACT

Two hundred and two people including 88 Australians were killed by Islamic terrorists in the 2002 Bali bombings. Imagine the outrage had demonstrators gathered in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide on the eve of the Bali anniversary to show solidarity with those who committed the wicked act.

George Fishman, Vaucluse, NSW

Just remember, folks, if 1200 Australian citizens are ever killed in one day and a couple of hundred are taken hostage by a foreign force, Penny Wong has our backs. Our Foreign Minister will spend the following 12 months more worried about the wellbeing of the foreign force than our dead citizens. All war is hell, so don’t start one. Israel has a right to secure its border, a right every other country exercises.

Murray Horne, Cressy, Vic

The conscription of our infamous bushranger to the Hezbollah flag shows an illuminating ignorance of Australian history. Whoever came up with the smart-alec idea needs to learn and reflect on the nature of Ned Kelly’s departure from life – at the end of a rope in Old Melbourne Gaol.

Tony Warton, Greenwood, WA

The Greens’ insensitive attitude to the rights of Israel to self-defence after the cowardly Hamas attack on October 7 last year sickens me. I am a Catholic but for once I wish I were Jewish so I could proudly stand with Israel in its strong responses to Hamas, Iran and Hezbollah. Long may Israel survive and prosper.

Peter J. Burke, Mosman, NSW

Thanks to The Australian for your powerful weekend coverage of the wars in the Middle East. Clearly, you have forced the spineless Anthony Albanese out of his disgraceful position – as usual, sitting on the fence.

Tony Hagar, Sandy Bay, Tas
