Fifty five Kiwis getting off a plane in Sydney and heading straight for Melbourne. Not to Queensland, not a one. A strange vote of confidence. Watch out Queensland tourism.

Imagine what Amnesty International will say about those poor NZ tourists landing in a dysfunctional, ungoverned hellhole like Victoria.

In drawing conclusions as suggested by Don Neil, I notice that Victoria’s deaths so far are 816 and the rest of Australia has had 88 (Last Post, 19/10). If we look at the very low current case numbers we might conclude that the Victorian response was too light at some stage and is now too heavy. It’s not good to put politics ahead of common sense.

Good to know that Chairman Dan is giving Melburnians a holiday for the AFL. Does he know it’s being played in Brisbane?

Was Johannes Leak gazing into a crystal ball when his cartoon on September 3 featured the mighty Tigers in the AFL Grand Final?

“Danger across the ditch as incompetent leader wins office”. What a disrespectful headline to our closest neighbour and ally on Jacinda Ardern’s historic election victory in New Zealand. Ardern is widely admired in Australia, and indeed, throughout the world. With Joe Biden leading in the polls for the US presidential election, the message is now clear that voters value basic decency and consideration for others in their political leaders.

The best thing about the NZ election is the country has finally rid itself of the perennial maverick Winston Peters.

Was it my imagination or did that halo that hovered over Wallaby coach Dave Rennie’s head in Wellington daylight last week lose some of its illumination in Auckland daylight on Saturday? At least Sydney on October 31 should be kinder to Rennie as the game is to be played at night. Halos always glow better in the dark.
Crispin Walters, Chapel Hill, Qld
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has successfully encouraged and exploited an exaggerated fear of death from the COVID-19 virus, regardless of the human costs of that strategy.
How ironic that she has made the legalisation of euthanasia a central proposal of her re-election campaign.
