Last Post: Nuclear power policy shows a far-sighted plan
Peter Dutton is setting up a race to net zero, with Labor the hare and the LNP the turtle. Come to think of it, I find Labor is moving too fast. We may all end up in tears and a wired-up mess.
Kon Parris, Lavington, Albury
I generally determine whether a policy is good by looking at those who oppose it. With Bowen and Bandt opposed, nuclear is looking on solid ground.
David Cook, Drummoyne, NSW
Dear Prime Minister, why not hold a yes/no referendum on nuclear power generation? Oops, sorry, nearly forgot how the last one didn’t quite go your way.
Graham Barnett, Eagle Point, Vic
It is good to see the LNP moving into the 21st century and shoring up future energy needs with plans to benefit generations to come.
Peter Lauricella, Beerwah, Qld
To criticise the nuclear option because of uncertain costs is laughable given the certainty of the massive cost and unreliability of a weather-dependent renewables energy.
William Mapleston, Ashgrove, Qld
Surely, if Finland with a population of about six million can use nuclear power to generate 34 per cent of its electricity, Australia should be capable of doing so.
Paul Everingham, Hamilton, Qld
I hope the Coalition isn’t relying on construction workers from the CFMEU to build the nuclear reactors.
Riley Brown, Bondi Beach, NSW
Before criticising Peter Dutton’s future energy plans, it would help if Chris Bowen gave us the cost estimates of the transition to renewables, including the cost of all related infrastructure, until 2050 and beyond.
Doug Hurst, Chapman, ACT
If it’s on time and on budget, it’s likely to be solar, not Snowy 2.0 and certainly not nuclear.
Jim Allen, Panorama, SA
I live in hope that Chris Bowen will announce before the next election that if you do not like his energy plans, then don’t vote for him. It was a great help when he made a similar statement in the past.
Tony Hennessy, Casino, NSW
The commentary piece by Minerals Council of Australia CEO Tania Constable (“End the ban on nuclear energy, and let the marketplace sort it out”, 19/6) would not have been out of place on your front page. In just 20 paragraphs, she made more sense of the energy debate minefield than anyone else in your recent pages.
