It looks like Labor is on track to destroy the federal Coalition.
Earlier this year, Labor Party president Wayne Swan said “we need to destroy conservatism”. If the results of the Victorian election are replicated in next year’s federal election, it will be a short march to achieving that aim.
Congrats to returned Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews. He and his party were better organised, had well-stated policies, and had a resounding win. Federally, the Libs must come out strongly with definitive policies, most of which should be like chalk and cheese alongside Labor policies. If they don’t, there’s no point in dithering over how to vote.
Volatile voters punish parties that are not seen to address people’s pain. It’s crunch time for the Libs. Business as usual won’t do.
Note to the Liberal Party: boot your advisers. After the resounding win by Labor in Victoria, it’s time to find another think tank. And stop having a go at the Labor Party at very opportunity and start telling the Australian people why the Libs are the better choice.
With the Victorian elections a romp for Labor, could a more productive bus trip for the PM be in the wind?
After the rout of the Liberals by Labor in the Victorian election, the federal Coalition should now establish immigration and energy policies that provide a clear and positive alternative to those offered by Labor.
Labor Party guru Graham Richardson has often opined that “the mob will work you out”. The Victorian election results indicate that in this case the mob has failed miserably while Daniel Andrews has worked out the mob.
The negative message for the federal Liberals from the Victoria election result is so glaring that it would make blind Freddy blink.
Heading a thin list of Annastacia Palaszczuk’s proudest achievements in the past 12 months is “abortion law reform” (“Premier staying power is far from accidental”, 24/11). What a sad indictment on her and her government.
Doesn’t it make more sense to invest billions in subsidies for renewables in high-energy, low-emissions coal-fired power plants instead? Three plants would last at least 50 years instead of 20 years for renewables.
