It’s now clear that imams are part of the problem.
Given the remarks about the Prime Minister by Mohammed Omran of the Hume Islamic Youth Centre, it is clear that he and other imams will always be part of the problem, never part of the solution. And constituents of Labor MP Anne Aly must now be wondering why they voted for her.
The #MeToo movement is structured as a Greek chorus: women seeking revenge sing loudly, demanding the demise of this man or that man. They are the Furies. Their only discipline is harmony. This wink, this touch, this vulgar taunt: all are equal, at high C, with assault, victimhood, survival. We wait the arrival of Athena to put things right.
I doubt that the sophisticated Gillian Triggs has had to deal with issues such as drought, fire, flood, isolation, and survival. Her big issues seem to have been with people having their feelings hurt. And congratulations to Murray Horne (Last Post, 14/11) for watching Q&A. I gave up long ago.
Congratulations, Jim Molan (“We can’t ignore our unique nuclear opportunity”, 13/11). But he seems unaware of a recent breakthrough in technology that has revolutionised the potential of nuclear power: new reactors run on high-level waste, thus eliminating the main reason for opposition to nuclear power.
AGL doesn’t want to release its coal-fired plant because the government has made it unprofitable to run it. Remove the subsidies and AGL would restart the plant, electricity prices would drop and investors could start building coal-fired plants again. Subsidies always hurt someone — in this case it’s the Australian electricity user.
I see that pesky word deplorables raising its ugly head again. I’m comforted to know it’s an anagram of dear ol plebs.
Once again we have Thomas Keneally carrying on about a republic (“Keneally to Labor: don’t rush republic”, 14/11). I just wish the Queen would undo the apron strings and say you are on your own.
If we don’t become a republic soon, we will be condemning our children and their children to endless visits, funded by taxpayers, from celebrity couples representing a family of over-indulged misfits from England.
Cricket Australia has had its culture inquiry and is having a clean-out. When will the states stand up to Rugby Australia and demand the same?
