Last Post: Nats leader, Libs leader and getting rid of old leaders
Some gratuitous advice to the Nationals. Elect David Littleproud as leader. He is intelligent, articulate, forceful, and always across his brief. And he’s a Queenslander. What more could you want?
Ivan Walsh, Aspley, Qld
The UN envoy gifted a copy of “Xi Jinping’s thoughts on human rights” must have been grateful for such a light load to carry and such a short volume to read (“UN envoy visits Xi’s flawed utopia”, 28-29/5).
Bill James, Frankston, Vic
I must commend the ABC on its ability to dredge through suburbs/cities/regions/states to locate the most mealy-mouthed Liberal Party members you’d meet in a week’s walk.

It was interesting to see Mark McGowan and Tanya Plibersek take potshots at Peter Dutton, which is a fair indication they fear his influence. Dutton referred to their petty comments as “water off a duck’s back”. He is the perfect foil against a weak Labor Government.
Mary-Anne Higgins, Rose Park, SA
The first thing Peter Dutton must do after he becomes leader is insist Malcolm Turnbull be thrown out of the party. Doing so will draw a line in the sand and make it clear: the Turnbull Labor lite/green era is over; the Liberals are returning to their roots. That must include a more moderate, incremental approach to climate that puts Australia’s national interests first, and is not driven by the virtue signalling of comfortable inner city elitists.
Burt Bosma, Surrey Hills, Vic
Peter Dutton has done a “Bradbury”: Abbott, Turnbull, Morrison and Frydenberg have all fallen over and he has won gold for Australia. A win for Liberal voters.
Peter Deans, Katherine, NT
If China is successful in achieving a foothold in South Pacific countries not far distant from our mainland, Australians will have far more to worry about than climate change.
Frank Reade, Macquarie, ACT
Boris Johnson has now been accused of inciting karaoke (“Tory MP calling for Boris to quit”, 28-29/5). Surely this must be the last straw.
P.J. Edwards, Clarence Park, SA
My nomination for Australians of the Year: The people of Biloela who supported the Murugappan family throughout the past 10 years, from their settlement in Biloela through their obscene, four-year incarcerations here and on Christmas Island.
Judy Bamberger, O’Connor, ACT
