It looks like a party can achieve an absolute parliamentary majority with only 30 per cent of the primary vote through the preferences of the losers while a Coalition with 35 per cent of the primary vote is reduced to a rump. Is this democracy?

Stan Yeaman, Perth

So instructive to see how matters of life and death (fire, flood and pestilence) have finally concentrated the voting mind of Australia. How good is that?

Louise Whelan, Chatswood, NSW

There is only one person with the mongrel to take the fight to the government – Peter Dutton. There is only one person who can win back the heart of voters – Josh Frydenberg.

George Fishman, Vaucluse, NSW

Francis Smith, Caulfield North, Vic

Ed Sianski, West Moonah, Tas

Peter Griffiths, Scarborough, Qld

Praise be! We have got our pages two and three back!

Ian Collie, Aspley, Qld

M Gibney, Sale, Vic

Johannes Leak at the absolute top of his game with “The chattering class has spoken” (23/5). His late father would be so proud.

Peter Lynch, Hamilton, Qld

Susan McLochlan, Caboolture South, Qld

Johannes Leak’s cartoon condemns the majority of voters as idiots and members of the “chattering class”. This sort of judgmental, superior attitude turned people like me off the Liberal Party.

Elizabeth Harrington, Milton, Qld

For me the only bright moment of the election was the demise of Kristina Keneally in Fowler. The locals gave the ALP a well deserved kick up the backside.

Mary-Anne Gourley, Doncaster, Vic

It has finally been proven, Kristina Keneally is “nobody’s girl”.

Joan Lester, Avalon, NSW
