Schoolchildren should protest out of school hours.

If activists must resort to using children to support their causes, could they insist they do it out of school hours.

Doubtless your readers will decry the student strike as brainwashed kids with no understanding of the issues. Doubtless conservative pollies will do likewise. But the world is rapidly leaving behind the deniers of yesteryear and embracing an urgent effort to halt climate change.

Mark Chapman, Buderim, Qld

Perhaps the striking schoolchildren should be given some sewing lessons so that in 10 years they can set up manual sewing machines and candles in their huts to make shirts for export to China and India.

With regards to C. Dicker’s letter (14/3), the schoolchildren are not gullible. They are brainwashed.

Mike Mitchell, Ascot, Qld

Tony Hennessy, Casino, NSW

I suppose we can assume that Bill Shorten will also be attacking the employer “fat cats” who produce nothing — the unions and public service management.

John Kopcheff, City Beach, WA

Now that the Australia one-day cricket team has defeated India (number one in the world) in India, why would the Australian selectors wish to add David Warner and Steve Smith to a winning, improving and coherent team that wins honestly?

David Iggulden, Wentworth Falls, NSW
