Last Post: Mandatory jabs, China, emissions and us

If a company can mandate that its employees are vaccinated and the employer then develops a complication or side effect and can’t work for any period, would that be covered by workers compensation?

Paul Graziotti, Dalkeith, WA

I object to my taxes being spent on expenses incurred on a discretionary basis by ABC reporter Louise Milligan. There is no obvious requirement in the conduct of her duties to have a Twitter account and, even if there were, she is not obliged to make posts on it. If Milligan wishes to cast judgment upon the conduct of others without the risk of financial exposure, perhaps she should stand for parliament and use parliamentary privilege.

Jim Neville, Marrickville, NSW

In order to respond to the IPCC report the Government should divert some defence spending, including that attached to the steam-powered submarine program, to tackle climate change so that when China invades we will be at net-zero emissions.

John Gray, Ascot Vale, Vic

Ian Crawford (Letters, 11/8) says that we need to find ways to recognise and share our different cultures in order to work together with China. Can he please produce even a scintilla of evidence that the Chinese Communist Party is interested in working together, even though that is perhaps what we would like?

Robyn Manoy, Darling Point, NSW

A great letter from Ian Crawford, which I hope politicians read. I would add that we should mind our own business on Taiwan. It is populated by Chinese, not Australians, and has a significant historical relationship with China, as did Hong Kong.

David Shrubb, Galston, NSW

Scott Morrison would save himself a whole lot of grief about climate change if he simply adopted President Xi Jinping’s approach. Say “yes” to whatever target the international community wants you to adopt, then carry on developing your own country’s energy goals regardless.

John Clark, Burradoo, NSW

It is high time the Prime Minister took over the running of NSW. The inept handling, long and short term, by the Premier has endangered Australian citizens, for whom Scott Morrison has overarching responsibility. Gladys Berejiklian refuses to bite the bullet and do her duty for fear of lost popularity. Her timidity would have been unthinkable in any other state and must be condemned. The PM must act.

Margaret Downie, Armadale, WA
