Last Post: Love and other catastrophes: Gladys, Daryl and Dan

I feel for the NSW Premier being brought down by an allegedly corrupt male of the species. As someone who has admired Gladys Berejiklian from afar, it is so disappointing to see all her good work pivoting on the actions of a person with so little moral fibre.

Claire Jolliffe, Buderim, Qld

It is said the brighter the light, the darker the shadow. It is hardly surprising, then, that the very bright, capable, upright, hard-working Gladys Berejiklian would have a Br’er Rabbit figure in her shadow.

Anne Di Lauro, The Gap, Qld

Those of us who believe that sexual liaisons outside marriage are wrong cannot condone the behaviour the NSW Premier has expressly confessed to. On the other hand, we know that if politicians who fail in this common way had to resign we would be faced with a flood of by-elections. Gladys Berejiklian has been doing an excellent job as Premier and unless it can be shown that her conduct has been shady in a political and administrative way there seems no reason for us to discard such talent.

David Morrison, Springwood, NSW

It seems events in NSW are turning into a Gladiatorial contest.

Roseanne Schneider, Toowoomba, Qld

Johannes Leak has absolutely nailed Daniel Andrews (“Handsome scoundrel”, 15/10). Is there a Pulitzer for cartoonists?

T. and A. James, Beauty Point, Tas

It is curious Victoria’s Chief Health Officer claims movements of coronavirus carriers can be tracked by phone records but nobody in Daniel Andrews’ inner circle can track records of who made the decisive and disastrous call to use hastily hired private security quarantine guards.

Brian Whybrow, Wanniassa, ACT

“Give people their freedom back, Andrews told” (15/10). Sounds more like a headline from Hong Kong.

Alan Chipp, Hawthorn East, Vic

It has been suggested Victoria’s number plates should be changed to “Victoria: State of Disaster”. Given Daniel Andrews’ persistently high approval ratings, perhaps this should be followed by the famous words of Maxwell Smart: “And LOVING it”.

Anthony Pane, Brisbane, Qld

If the Victorian private security inquiry fails to turn up the facts, the soon-to-follow class actions by the families of those who died will surely uncover them.

William S. Lloyd, Denistone, NSW

Is Coca-Cola sponsoring the ICAC inquiry? Everyone seems to be constantly sucking on their water bottles. Can they add a bit of class with some jugs and glasses please?

John Hill, Willoughby, NSW
