Last Post: Libs and Nats need a break before getting back together

A little break will do them both good (“Three-year Noalition”, 21/5). They aren’t doing anything now anyway. And when they get back together, they will be even more in love. It’s called make-up politics.

Alexander Haege, Tamarama, NSW

If the Russians and the Ukrainians or the Palestinians and Israelis cannot find an agreement, then how can we expect the Nationals and the Liberals to come to an agreement? That’s how nonsensical this is.

V. Donovan, Corinda, Qld

In the longer term, is the Nationals’ separation from the Liberals such a bad thing? We know they will reconcile eventually and, just as with the voice, the Nats are showing the Libs a principled stand on the values that have ensured their electoral support.

Rob Sinclair, North Sydney, NSW

Very little to be proud of there, David.

Ian Morison, Forrest, ACT

Littleproud or perhaps Bigproud? Pride certainly has gone before the fall on this one.

Geoff O’Brien, Eltham, Vic

The Libs and Nats file for divorce. Nuclear family splits?

Trevor Farrant, Hackney, SA

David Littleproud has just guaranteed at least a decade of Labor government. Anthony Albanese, the Labor Party and the unions will be very happy.

Elaine Staples, Campbell, ACT

The National Party mob have now shot themselves in both feet by cancelling the Coalition agreement.

Ed Turner, Sinnamon Park, Qld

A break may be beneficial in the short term, but it should be obvious to both the Liberals and the Nationals that neither will form government without the other.

Kim Keogh, Claremont, WA

Libs being trashed at the election and Nats splitting from the Coalition brings to mind the Aesop’s story about how false friends leave you in times of trouble.

Steve Ngeow, Chatswood, NSW

Do not worry about the proposed tax on unrealised capital gains. There will be no gains. Who in their right mind would buy an asset knowing full well that any or all paper gain would be immediately taxable? There will be no market for such an asset.

Walter Raynolds, Braidwood, NSW

A question to mortgage holders about the interest rate cut: do you really think you will be better off?

Mike Stark, Carine, WA
