Last Post: Labor’s election fortunes are linked to the Greens
$275 says Albo will deal with the Greens.

Anthony Albanese says he has ruled out negotiating with the Greens. Really? Why then is the ALP preferencing the Greens in most electorates? If no quid pro quo has been negotiated that would be most surprising.

Anyone thinking not having to pay for the doctor is a good idea should take a look at the state of the National Health Service in Britain. People go to their GP to get a prescription for aspirin rather than pay for it in the supermarket.
Valerie O’Neill, East Perth, WA
The only asset Anthony Albanese has going for him is luck. Absolutely nothing else.
Agnes Benstock, Vaucluse, NSW
Peter Dutton might have some good arguments why we should vote Liberal. Unfortunately, his presentation lacks punch. It would be better if he could talk like a professional speaker with more variation, more stress when needed, plus plenty of pauses. Then again, Anthony Albanese is not much better.

How refreshing to read about a university chancellor rebuffing the baseless orthodoxy that everyone is better off with a university degree (“Gonski makes case for tradies”, 17/4). Universities don’t train the builders desperately needed to resolve our housing crisis.
Paul Prociv, Mount Mellum, Qld
Here’s a suggested solution to stop international students gaming the visa system: as soon as the students fail their designated university course, instant deportation back to their country of origin and their migration agent forfeits to the government 50 per cent of the migration agent’s fee for facilitating the defaulting students’ visa (“Unis slam foreign student ‘phantoms’ ”, 17/4).

It is rare to venture outdoors these days without hearing of US President Donald Trump’s craziness. Of much greater concern should be the majority of Australian voters considering our governance to be normal.
William Mapleson, Ashgrove, Qld
The chaos and recklessness surrounding the Trump administration does not seem to have had any negative impact on the MAGA base’s positive views about the President. This vindicates Trump’s 2016 observation about himself: “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters.”
