Last Post: Labor oxymorons, Albo’s diplomatic afterglow and captain of the Titanic

Dan Andrews will get the votes simply because he’s left, not right.

Ashton Schilling, Murray Bridge, SA

I choked on my toast reading the comments of a Labor spokesperson on Nurul Khan’s axing from the party (“Labor MPs plotted against punted candidate”, 18/11). Surely the statement the Victorian ALP “took the integrity and behaviour of candidates extremely seriously” is an oxymoron?

Philip Brookes, Coorparoo, Qld

After his “positive and constructive” talks with Xi, we can only hope that our PM doesn’t get off the plane waving a piece of paper and promising peace in our time.

Michael Houldsworth, Townsville, Qld

Anthony Albanese has signalled Australia is unlikely to support Taiwan’s entry into one of the world’s biggest free-trading bloc just days after his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Shame, Albo, shame.

Susan Caughey, Glen Iris, Vic

Is Emmanuel Macron’s commentary on the nuclear submarine deal simply poorly translated, or is he clearly acting on advice of the CCP? Either way, he isn’t helping Australian interests in the Pacific.

Greg Adamson, Griffith, NSW

Surely by putting himself up as a presidential candidate Donald Trump is fighting a vainglorious, delusional fight of self-promotion and self-protection rather than fighting “for American glory”.

Maggie Woodhead, Swan View, WA

Labor, on cue, is going to hack into our superannuation to pay down debt; without offering to reduce MPs’ generous pensions, give up business-class travel or catch an Uber in Canberra instead of Comcars.

Philip Kilvington, Coolangatta, Qld

I see the NSW government is advertising the development of more than 300 wind turbines along with associated infrastructure. How will the not-in-my-backyard advocates react?

David Crommelin, Strathfield, NSW

The Australian rugby coach Dave Rennie’s post-game commentaries lead me to imagine the captain of the Titanic running around the deck shouting: “Could someone help me find the binoculars?”

George Shirling, Mosman, NSW

Is it true some of those climate demonstrators threw paint all over Blue Poles and nobody noticed?

Barry Lamb, Heidelberg West, Vic
