John Hewson’s dumping by Nine Entertainment (“Nine dumps Hewson in gender shake-up”, 19/7) to make way for more women opinion writers is further proof that no one is safe from a woke cancellation, even the woke themselves.
Jock Munro, Rankins Springs, NSW
John Hewson was dumped not because of gender but irrelevance.

Q. How is this cancel culture case (deportation of Katie Hopkins for speaking her mind) different to all other cases of cancel culture?
A. In this cancel culture case, it fits the narrative while in all other cases it doesn’t.
Henry Herzog, St Kilda East, Vic
The marketing geniuses at Channel 7 must have bet that D-list British celebrity Katie Hopkins, known for her disgraceful racist views, would be a ratings success for Celebrity Big Brother. If only they had read the story of the Scorpion and the Frog.

Ian Wilson, Chapel Hill, Qld
A bad start to the week for the doom-mongers and the hand-wringers (“Coral repair raises hope for the reef”, 19/7).
Kim Keogh, East Fremantle, WA
John Sheldrick (Last Post, 19/7), sorry, but surely it should be “Mungo gender neutral”.
Sheila Duke, Balmoral, Qld
For many historians, the main cause of the mutiny on the Bounty was the six months’ stay by the crew of the Bounty in Tahiti (“Bullying Bligh: A captain’s pick”, 19/7).
The mutineers, especially Fletcher Christian, were seduced and captivated by Polynesian customs and women.
Roman Buszynski, Kaleen, ACT
