Last Post: Johannes Leak comes face to face with the outrage industry
Congratulations go to Chris Kenny for a cogent piece that wraps up all the deficiencies of the woke left culture taking Australia and many parts of the world by storm right now (“Bold cartoon exposes left’s identity crisis”, 17/8).
Iain Carmichael, Richmond, Vic
Congratulations to the silent majority and the Editor-in-Chief of The Australian for supporting Johannes Leak’s Biden cartoon over the screams of the lefties.
David Gray, Peppermint Grove, WA
Hang in there, Johannes. We need people showing the truth that many can’t handle. Bill would be proud.
Robin Barker, Bondi, NSW
Joe Biden does not possess PC, but that is all one can say. He did not say anything racist when introducing Senator Kamala Harris. Context is everything. A man describing how minorities might now have hope is not racist. If he had used the words “people of colour” perhaps Johannes Leak would not have created the cartoon. Leak has taken Biden’s words out of context and that is not funny. Biden was sincere.

Since the government started charging for hotel quarantine, Aussie citizens returning home from overseas are no longer a burden on the taxpayer. So why is there still an outgoing travel ban (“Innocent Aussies on flight ban lists”, 17/8)?
Alexis Fishman, expat, New Rochelle, US
Why are the press and public not making more noise about this “rolling” outbound travel ban? It is worth repeating that Australia is the only democracy in the world banning its citizens from leaving. New Zealand does not stop its citizens leaving, so why does Australia? Where are the civil libertarians now?
Rob Possingham, Dalyellup, WA
I await the howls of condemnation of Jacinda Ardern for doing what many have feared Donald Trump will do — postpone the election — or do I sniff a double standard in the air (“Ardern postpones election until October 17”, 17/8)?
Peter Fleming, Northmead, NSW
Claims that Aborigines set controlled burns to minimise bushfires and so set an example for us to do the same is just more fake news. They lit those fires to drive kangaroos and other animals out of the bush to kill them for food. So that is not a model for us; we need controlled burns carefully targeted to protect our vulnerable settled areas — a very different concept. A methodical approach to the problem as proposed in Graham Lloyd’ article (“Bushfire estimates up in smoke”, 13/8) is a sound beginning to an effective solution.
