Handing back ‘privilege’ is not that easy to do

This morning I put my privilege out with the curbside council collection of six rusting garden chairs, a broken slat blind, two pre-digital TVs and a leaking esky. I am not confident anyone will pass by and recuperate my whiteness, my masculinity or my 50 years of employment. Too bad. I’m done with them now I’m woke.

Keith Russell, Mayfield West, NSW

Do my ears deceive me? Just heard an ABC news bulletin with no advertorial for Zali Steggall.

John Sumner, Deviot, Tas

I don’t understand why skiing medallist Zali Steggall is using climate change at the forefront of her election campaign in Warringah. Didn’t Australia’s ski fields have their best snow falls last winter ?

Riley Brown, Bondi Beach, NSW

Will Zali stop the boats?

Christina Faulk, Swinger Hill, ACT

True, Peter van Onselen, Scott Morrison is no John Howard yet, but when he goes on to win the next election after starting from well behind, he certainly will be.

George Fishman, Vaucluse, NSW

Libs and Labor need only preference each other in all federal seats to end the 10-year cancer of minority fringe politicians holding this country to ransom and muting a better Australia.

Kevin Skinner, McLaren Flat, SA

Coalition in new year bounce (29/1)? And pigs just flew past my window.

Margaret Ludowyk, Brunswick, Vic

The rising Newspoll rating for Scott Morrison comes as no surprise to those who favour basic decency. If Liberal MPs stick with him and do not bail out or become independent he’s in with a chance.

Roseanne Schneider, Toowoomba, Qld

I know it’s only a tiny increase in the polls, but could Bill be true to his name and could Scott soon have us cheering “Great Scott” before too many more moons?

Rosemary O’Brien, Georges Hall, NSW

Cory Bernardi left the Liberal Party claiming it was too left wing. Julia Banks left the Liberal Party claiming it was controlled by the Right. They can’t both be correct. Maybe the party is occupying the sensible centre after all.

Shaun Miller, Prahran, Vic

It is premature to brand the federal Government a sinking ship, but it may be prudent for the crew to don lifejackets and not be distracted by the rats.

M.F. Horton, Adelaide, SA

I presume all those people who hate Australia Day would never own houses, cars, appliances or any other advantages brought into this country by the invaders.

Greg Kater, Sanctuary Cove, Qld
