References to ‘invasion day’ are simply divisive.
People who seek to create divisions with their references to “invasion day” when we should be uniting to celebrate all that is good about our country are unlikely to be appeased by a change of date.
People who want Australia Day moved and who stomp down streets yelling that they have been excluded and shut out are creating a dangerous division in society.
Jeff Kennett is naive in thinking that those opposed to celebrating Australia Day on January 26 are worried about the date. They are simply opposed to celebrating Australia Day.
The champion skier vying to topple Tony Abbott, in taking on Tim Flannery as a climate change adviser, will definitely be using her triple-pike and backflip skills in expressing her views on climate change.
Johannes Leak’s cartoon (26/1) ranks up there with the best. The fashion flogger is irrelevant to all but the celebrity suckers. Julie Bishop’s self-absorption continues to remind us of all that is wrong with our political elites — all glitz and no guts.
I was all but ready to pen a letter about the hypocrisy of Anna Wintour lecturing us on inclusiveness when I saw Johannes Leak’s cartoon. If ever a picture captured 1000 words, this one nailed it brilliantly.
I hope Margaret Court keeps her chin up. The Anna Wintours, the Julie Bishops and the Alan Joyces of this world might, on their very best days, be qualified to carry her bags. You know it, I know it, most of Australia knows it and, deep down, I reckon they know it too.
Naomi Osaka had the limelight stolen from her win at the US Open six months ago. By winning Saturday’s Australian Open, Osaka can now bask in the glory she was deprived six months ago.
What a scintillating women’s tennis final. Great ground strokes played by both women with no temper tantrums. And, best of all, the match was played with no grunting, screeching or yelling when the ball was being hit. Well done to both ladies, true champions of the sport. Naomi Osaka and Petra Kvitova were both winners on Saturday.
Perhaps blowing up all those base-load coal-fired power generators wasn’t such a brilliant idea after all.
