Last Post: It seems the buck does not stop anywhere in Victoria

Had Victoria’s hotel quarantine been a stand-out success, would the same people who are now denying ownership of the program be jostling to take credit for it?

David Coggins, Noosa, Qld

Given Victorian government ministers were not involved in decision-making, lacked interest in overseeing programs and failed to seek answers as to how decisions were made, it begs the question: why are they being paid at all?

Ashley Miller, Malvern, Vic

It is obvious Daniel Andrews and his ministers and senior bureaucrats have never heard of President Harry S. Truman’s well-known quote, “The buck stops here.”

L.M. Silbert, West Leederville, WA

Maybe “I do not recall” says more about the meetings than about evasion.

Leo Oostveen, Murarrie, Qld

Given the approval ratings Daniel Andrews appears to be enjoying, despite the disaster inflicted on Victoria by him and his politburo, isn’t it time we came up with a more Australian term for Stockholm syndrome?

Kevin Lathbury, Willetton, WA

As one looks at what is happening in Victoria two things spring to mind: the TV show Hogan’s Heroes with Sergeant Schultz and his “I know nothing” and Stephen Sondheim’s tune Send in the Clowns, with the line “send in the clowns; don’t bother they’re here”.

My heart bleeds for Keith Briton (Last Post, 25/9), who is “only existing” in Victoria rather than living. As an 86-year-old I suggest he stop and consider that it is better being above the ground than six feet under.

Marjorie Brown, Glenunga, SA

As an Australian approaching my ninth decade, the phrase “Poor fellow my country” comes to mind. Not only are we faced with dishonest, incompetent and power-hungry premiers, but also, it seems, a timid Prime Minister who is reluctant to give manufacturing the stimulus it needs (“Coal — Australia’s great and costly retreat”, 24/9).

J.G. Kellaway, Urangan, Qld

With Labor politicians pandering to the woke crowd, the Greens and the renewable energy mob, at long last we are seeing some unions standing up for ordinary blue-collar workers in regional areas, which produce the wealth that actually supports the cities and underpins our economy (“Gas stance an insult to workers, says union”, 25/9). Hallelujah and about time.

Glenys Clift, Toowoomba, Qld
