Last Post: Intergenerational reform will create many losers
Instead of dreaming up ways to further tax Australians, the Albanese Labor government should completely cancel its wasteful, exploited NDIS and start again with a properly thought-out, budgeted and costed scheme.

One of Treasurer Jim Chalmers’s most repeated terms is “intergenerational reform”, which seems to be a Robin Hood-like plan to plunder the hard-earned savings in superannuation to fund his government’s socialist welfare agenda, partially disguised as “nation-building”.
Michael Saul, Scarborough, Qld
“Lasting and enduring economic progress” is Jim Chalmers’s code for increasing taxes to support his spending agenda. No mention of rising power prices or fiscal restraint. Whatever happened to the cost-of-living crisis we had prior to the last election?
Peter McKenzie, Gracemere, Qld
The government is running out of money and needs to raise taxes. I wonder why?

“How did we go from a country of workers to a nation of bludgers?” asks Henry Ergas (23-24/8). Answer: very easily.
Roseanne Schneider, Toowoomba, Qld
The Albanese/Chalmers government does not have an income problem, despite its searching around for further sources of revenue. It has a spending problem. Eyeing intergenerational superannuation wealth is contemplating theft. Make an effort, socialist leaders, to limit your spending to your budget, like your long-suffering taxpayers have to.

The cleaning crew at Parliament House face a mammoth task in restoring the tidiness of the cabinet chamber. So many hard economic issues were swept under the table, they will need an army of helpers.
Michael Saul, Scarborough, Qld
Why does Labor appear hellbent on “killing the goose that lays the golden eggs”. The centuries-old Aesop fable wisely warns against destroying profitable assets or sources of wealth out of greed or shortsighted actions.

Congratulations to JK Rowling for calling out yet another act of kowtowing to the trans lobby (“JK Rowling slams stillbirth probe ‘misogyny’ ” (23-24/8). When will sanity return, and allow women to have privacy and support?
