Last Post: How many voices? No longer united on national day

Why is the Minister for Indigenous Australians not already a voice for Indigenous Australians? Why do we need a second one? What more can a “voice” provide?

Brian Austen, South Hobart, Tas

Anthony Albanese’s elaborate pragmatic proposal for the voice: “Trust me, I am a former political staffer and a career politician.”

J.C. Taylor, Brisbane, Qld

When the First Nations people and more and more non-Indigenous Australians oppose the date of Australia Day, how can that day unite the country in celebrating Australia’s uniqueness and our sense of fairness and equality?

Henry Herzog, St Kilda East, Vic

Can someone tell me how the voice is going to practically address the underlying problems of Alice Springs (“Red Centre town on edge of its wits”, 21/1)? This is what should be exercising our attention.

Shane Hughes, Shenton Park, WA

The more people like Judith Brett (“Saying No to a voice will be to our eternal regret”, 21-22/1) quote Marcia Langton’s description of opponents to the constitutional enshrinement of the voice as “redneck” opportunists, the more determined they become to oppose it.

John Lake, Mosman Park, WA

Andy Murray and Thanasi Kokkinakis may well have had nothing left in the tank, Fran Durand (Last Post, 21-22/1), but it appears there was a lot left in Murray’s bladder due to his being denied a toilet break mid-match.

John Hughes, Kincumber, NSW

Finally an intuitive and confronting article on the negative effects of the Covid-19 vaccine has seen the light of day (“ ‘No one wants to know we exist’ ”, Inside Story, 21-22/1). This subject has been in many ways taboo, with anyone who dares question the vaccine labelled as some kind of conspiracy theory nutter. Why, in a free and fair society, are we not entitled to ask questions of our health officials and government regarding these obvious serious side-effects? I’m sure there is more to come.

Russ Fathers, Tweed Heads, NSW

So Chris Wallace thinks that Julia Gillard didn’t have the capacity and resilience to withstand any attacks by her internal and external political adversaries (“Why the Gillard biography was shelved”, 21-22/1). If a male had said that, the cries of “misogyny” would be deafening.

Ian Gibson, Golden Grove, SA

Is it true that Jacinda Ardern has a job lined up at the UN?

Robert Buczma, Randwick, NSW
