Last Post: Harry and Meghan, Bob Carr and cancelling Quad
Another beaut cartoon from Johannes Leak (“The fast and the spurious”, 19/5). The “drama queen” Sussexes are presumably rueing the day they hired a taxi driver gifted with common sense.
Helen Jackson, Higgins, ACT
Horse and buggy may be the way to go around Central Park next time the Sussexes are in New York.
Susan McLochlan, Caboolture, Qld
The change of monarch means that some of us may now be speaking the King’s English rather than the Queen’s English. Should Treasury officials be concerned?
Carmen Heathcote, Carina, Qld
Bob Carr needs to take a break. Of course Carr sees himself as an intellect and a luminary of the nation; he is anything but (“Carr’s comments on Biden ‘appalling’: Birmingham”, 19/5).
John George, Terrigal, NSW
Chinese ambassador Xiao Qian questions why Australia spends “huge amounts of money on unnecessary defence requirements”, when we might well ask him the same question (“Albanese visit to China on the table”, 19/5).
Paul Haege, Darling Point, NSW
As soon as you allow housing to become a commodity, then you have a problem. Some are looking at the park bench as their home for the night. Others perch on a different type of bench in the morning sunshine, sip an overpriced coffee and peruse the latest hot property on real estate sites for yet another investment.
Tom Heffer, Myrtle Bank, SA
Surely the full Quad could be resurrected through technology? Zoom conferences have been around for years.
Claire Jolliffe, Buderim, Qld
Surely, Joe Biden’s no-show at the Quad summit is a reflection on the ambassadorial skills of Kevin Rudd who failed to secure the visit.
Martin Newington, Aspendale, Vic
So what if my super fund makes a donation to a union, which then makes a donation to the Labor Party? Sounds OK to me, nothing to see there!
Clive Arnold, Chelmer, Qld
It’s my firm opinion that all major bar associations should stick to what they do best – serving beer, wine and cocktails.
Rosemary O’Brien, Ashfield, NSW
The phrase “when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind doesn’t blow” seems to be employed increasingly in the debate around renewable energy. It does seem a little longwinded and cumbersome. Could I suggest “climate-failure” as an alternative?
