Last Post: Half-hearted responses on anti-Semitism

Our Prime Minister’s performance on Josh Frydenberg’s documentary gave me absolutely no confidence that he will call out anti-Semitism for what it is and put a stop to it (“Social media’s malign influence”, 29/5). Half-hearted responses and a weak presentation did nothing to indicate that he has what it takes to make a strong, firm and determined statement.

Mark Scott apparently has decided to model his behaviour on that of Neville Chamberlain in 1938 (“U Syd’s anti-Israel capitulation”, 29/5). We hope the outcome will not be the same.

Alan Slade, Dover Heights, NSW

It seems extraordinary that the wars in Ukraine and southern Sudan are mentioned only briefly, if at all, in the media. All attention has been on the Middle East but there are other wars going on that are just as devastating and dreadful. Australia should not be involved in any war or allow hatred of one group over another to flourish in this country.

Anne Findlay, Princes Hill, Vic

Disturbing but so informative was Jason Thomas’s commentary (“Islamist invasion is already happening by stealth”, 29/5). We must rue the government’s position with the lack of support for the Jews among us and kowtowing to the Islamists in the Labor-held seats. What is required from the government is policies for all Australians, not what is happening now.

John Amor, Mosman, NSW

A question for Laura Tingle. Please name one country that isn’t racist. Australia would be one of the least racist countries in our world.

Fran Durand, St Ives, NSW

How can Laura Tingle say we are a racist country, as in my experience as a tour guide millions of people wish to immigrate here? If we’re racist, why would they want that?

Louise Dunbar, Cammeray, NSW

Judith Sloan makes some excellent points on the CSIRO’s costings of nuclear energy (“CSIRO’s flawed nuclear report is riddled with errors”, 28/5). If we went nuclear, we wouldn’t need renewables at all. Maybe that’s the reason this government is so dead set against nuclear power.

Ivan Cope, Tanunda, SA

I am surprised that one of his many advisers has not told Anthony Albanese that Andrew Giles should go if he wishes to be re-elected.

LM Silbert, West Leederville, WA

Why on earth would Peter Dutton want Andrew Giles to resign or be sacked? He’s the gift that keeps on giving. Prop him up with a broomstick until the next election.

Trevor Farrant, Hackney, SA
