Last Post: Greens boast may come back to bite them
So Adam Bandt is boasting about “keeping Peter Dutton out of parliament”. Clearly Bandt has not noticed that Dutton, and the nation’s conservative voters, may succeed in keeping him out of parliament.

I see a lot of people deriving joy from the decline of the Greens. My mother always starts her ballot by putting them last.

Comparing the results with the pollsters’ predictions, it appears every party needs to change their pollster before the next election.

My advice for Andrew Hastie is don’t be too hasty and bide your time. The Liberals will have had at least two leaders before the 2031 election. Then your turn will come.
Graeme Manning, West Hobart, Tas
As a Liberal voter, I’m not sure why I’m not devastated by the election result. Maybe because I saw it coming or because I’m an optimistic person, but surely because I’m convinced that, like a phoenix from the ashes, the Liberal Party will rise again.

Landslides always lead to talk of a decade in power. An electorate probably addicted to handouts preferred a disastrous government to an incompetent opposition. Let’s see how it looks after three more years of universal decline.

Jim Chalmers was spot-on when he stated the focus of the government’s second term would be productivity. I suggest the government immediately start a wax candle factory.
