Last Post: Government should learn to spend less

After the Reserve Bank’s statement, my advice to the Albanese government is: follow the advice of the voters and stop spending.

As the Middle East descends into further chaos and attacks on Israel by Iran and Hezbollah look imminent, might we expect to see crowds of protesters waving flags in our streets?

John McLeod, Sunshine Coast, Qld

Greg Sheridan (“PM’s terror alert undercut by weasel words, feeble politics”, 6/8) cuts to the chase, highlighting Anthony Albanese’s refusal to acknowledge the threat of Islamist extremism. It may be helpful if our government looks at how and why England has lost the plot.

Alan Chipp, Hawthorn East, Vic

It’s time the Prime Minister stopped wasting words on the Iranian ambassador’s recent outburst and opened up the crisp drawer in the fridge and pulled out the lettuce.

Rob Webster, Quirindi, NSW

How on earth can destroying the countryside for renewables, often against the pleading of the local Indigenous people, close the gap?

Peter Lauricella, Beerwah, Qld

Former NSW premier Dominic Perrottet says Covid vaccine mandates were a mistake (“Perrottet’s jab at vaccine mandates”, 7/8). Really? I suggest former Victorian premier Dan Andrews would disagree. He did very well out of them.

Michael Doyle, Ashburton, Vic

Tim Walz’s 24-year service with the Army National Guard involved working in disaster relief. His experience in that area should prove invaluable to him as Kamala Harris’s running mate.

T. Trotter, Brisbane

Hopefully Kamala Harris will continue “Waltzing Matilda” with us Aussies now that Tim Walz has accepted her invitation to be her running mate at the US election.

John Bicknell, Bargo, NSW

Just a question: what are the Aussie men doing at the Olympics? All I see are our women winning.

Alan Fletcher, Scarborough, WA

A party boat was organised for 120 guests by billionaire Gina Rinehart (“Gina’s Seine cruise a star-studded affair, with golden-boot bonus”, 7/8). What a lovely gesture to show appreciation for our Olympic athletes. It’s the little things that count and it was a nice touch by Rinehart, who is living up to her name, having a “heart”.

Susan McLochlan, Caboolture South, Qld
