Watch for Julie Bishop’s next posting

After the 2019 federal election, will Julie Bishop be the next ambassador to the US or the UN?

Catherine Sullivan, Queanbeyan, NSW

Regarding this crop of federal politicians, can I just say that as a bloke with an interest I am bored to smithereens and will wait patiently for Antony Green to make the call, on a Saturday night, apparently sometime in May.

David Hall, Coombabah, Qld

Was it only a short time ago that Bill Shorten was travelling around Far North Queensland in his big red bus, trumpeting his support for jobs? Why so quiet on Adani?

David Crommelin, Strathfield, NSW

Regarding your story “Coal collapse ‘a good thing’, Labor MP says”, 21/2), Labor seems to enjoy slitting Australia’s financial throat even before they assume office.

Paul Haege, Darling Point, NSW

Can Richard Marles explain what he intends to do about the 52 coal mines that India has opened since 2014?

Howard Dewhirst, Burleigh Heads, Qld

Richard Marles would be right at home in the Christopher Pyne school of defence procurement.

L.J. O’Donoghue, South Yarra, Vic

I only hope Richard Marles, in his haste to strip the Australian economy of $25 billion of coal revenue, has $25 billion of bizarre ideology to replace it.

Crispin Walters, Chapel Hill, Qld

As one of the millions of residents in multi-storey units, without the ability to take advantage of the generous government incentives to install solar power, we are not amused at the resultant ever-increasing power bills (“Solar power must pay its way”, 21/2). Another consideration when it comes time to cast a vote.

Charles Stanger, Manuka, ACT

Australia’s airport firefighters banned from climbing ladders more than 2m high (“Safety restrictions could thwart rescues”, 21/2)? Surely PC gone mad. In New Zealand it is now illegal for a tradie to use an extension ladder. If a carpenter needs to repair a second-storey window, or a painter needs to paint the window, they must use scaffolding or a cherry picker.

John Hunt, Northbridge, NSW

Aviation firefighters not being allowed to train on ladders higher than 2m due to safety concerns begs the question: what happens on a windy night when they need to climb a 10m ladder to mount a rescue?

Iain Rae, River Heads, Qld

With apologies to Oscar Wilde, for NAB to lose a CEO may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both a CEO and chairman looks like carelessness.

Joanna Wriedt, Eaglemont, Vic
