Chris Bowen may have delivered Labor’s ‘deplorables’ moment.

Chris Bowen’s dismissive comments to self-funded retirees just might be his “deplorables” moment.

Gabrielle Baker, Carina, Qld

Chris Bowen’s obvious disdain for self-funded retirees, with his “vote against us” if you don’t like it comment, could come back to bite him big time. It looks like Australia’s version of the “deplorables” comment by another leftie politician — and we know how that ended.

Don Hill, North Lakes, Qld

Given Chris Bowen’s and Bill Shorten’s dismissive comments about his tax on self-funded retirees, they will have no right to trot out the mantra of governing for all Australians if Labor wins.

Peter Sesterka, Hawker, ACT

Chris Bowen’s arrogance towards self-funded retirees beggars belief. In our democracy, an elected government should stand for all Australians. If Labor discriminates against people who have worked, saved and invested in our country, they set a precedent where they can take the stick to any other group at will. Who will be next?

Malcolm Brooks, Salisbury, SA

Perhaps Chris Bowen misses the point. It is my extended family he should worry about — Grandpa and Grandma are being attacked after putting in over a lifetime.

Peter Dowling, Brisbane, Qld

Chris Bowen’s comment would have to be the most uncaring, insulting and disrespectful slur against the concerns of retirees.

A. Richards, Mt Gambier, SA

It seems that in today’s society, an opinion, freedom of speech, and equal rights are privileges granted only to left-wing extremists.

Rusty Marsh, West Bathurst, NSW

Frank Pulsford (Letters, 2/1) has delivered a reasoned reproof to corporate poseurs who refuse to stick to core business — their knitting, as Peter Dutton memorably put it — and to the social engineers who encourage them to do so.

Terry Birchley, Bundaberg, Qld

I can imagine the uproar if thousands of hectares of cotton were dying from lack of water rather than some fish, I’m sure a solution would be found. Management of this asset is a disgrace.

Don Portors, Mooloolaba, Qld

Climate change has become an unhealthy obsession. We seem to talk of nothing else. Why have we become so focused on it when any actions we might take would have little effect? I predict that if Bill Shorten is elected in May and 50 per cent renewables are mandated, absolutely nothing will change with the climate. Then what will the alarmists demand?

John Clark, Burradoo, NSW
