Last Post: Europe’s big reality check
How good to hear a reality check being dished out to European countries by a straight-shooting, commonsense US VicePresident.

At the end of JD Vance’s invigorating speech who else instinctively wanted to stand and cheer before remembering we’re not allowed to do that sort of thing these days?

Paul Kelly’s article obliterates the notion that Donald Trump is the master of the deal. Why would the leader of the free world make concessions to Vladimir Putin without anything in return?
Bob Miller, Leederville, WA
Peter Dutton suggests we should cut Donald Trump a bit of slack, given his big-business background. If so, I trust this would not mean accepting Trump’s woeful ignorance of economics. Perhaps Dutton himself will undertake to explain to Trump the difference between a GST and tariffs. The task could well prove fruitless, but should at least be attempted.

Further to the excellent article by Chris Uhlmann in The Weekend Australian, despite the outrageous salaries these bureaucrats are paid, taxpayers are required to pay hundreds of millions of dollars to consultants for the government of the day to be advised of the best course of action to follow, often with disastrous results.

The NSW railway strikes are getting absolutely ridiculous. The demand by the union is on the verge of blackmail. The public interest is totally ignored. If you want to learn how to strike, people should come to Australia.

There’s a story going around that there’s been no unseemly government pressure put on the Reserve Bank to cut interest rates. Yeah, just like there’s no pressure on Marnus Labuschagne to score runs.
Rosemary O’Brien, Ashfield, NSW
Those among us who are naive enough to believe that a cash rate cut will solve what lies ahead should consider the bigger picture when standing at the ballot box in the near future.

Julie Szego is right. The Jew-hatred rants by the Bankstown Hospital Muslim nurses are not the empty talk of two “deranged” individuals. Rather it is the mainstream uninhibited commentary of many “respectable” men and women.
