Last Post: Election wasn’t a thumping approval of energy policy

Would someone please advise Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen that Labor’s 34 per cent primary vote is hardly a ringing endorsement of his policies?

Alex Cleave, North Fremantle, WA

There’s much to take exception to about Chris Bowen’s article but the standout was his claim 47 per cent of the Dickson electorate voted against Peter Dutton on the nuclear issue (“Referendum, Mr Dutton? Power to the people”, 14/5). Where was he? He was kept well-hidden so he couldn’t claim any election kudos.

Sussan Ley has pledged to win back female voters. I would have thought they would be offended if they needed to be treated differently.

Ross McDonald, Gordon, NSW

Sussan Ley should feel secure in her job; after all, Malcolm Turnbull is no longer in parliament.

With countless others I grieve for our entire nation, and not just Kooyong residents, the loss of the undoubted but untried strengths of Liberal Amelia Hamer and, before her, the gifted Josh Frydenberg.

Congratulations to Janet Albrechtsen for her brilliant article (“An open letter to Noel and Marcia”, 14/5). We can only hope they can get out of their own ways long enough to listen to some positive advice.

The photo of the new cabinet being sworn in is a picture of joy and colour – a contrast to the sombre black-and-white days.

Despite his claimed allegiance to the three faiths his mum taught him – the Catholic Church, the Labor Party and the Rabbitohs – the Prime Minister chose to take the oath of office by affirmation rather than by placing his hand on the Bible. As he is heading off to the Vatican, perhaps he feared a bolt from heaven?

Jim Chalmers and the Labor Party are already attacking those who didn’t vote for them. It appears they are “duds”. Not nice at all. I expect better from a minister.
