Last Post: Dutton facing opposition from the usual quarters
As Peter Dutton announces the how and where of nuclear power, right on cue, almost as if they have been instructed to by Anthony Albanese, Labor premiers start chorusing “not in my state” (“The Dutton department of nuclear”, 19/6).
Philip Kilvington, Coolangatta, Qld
Chris Bowen says Peter Dutton is slowing down the building of renewables. The Energy Minister doesn’t need to worry, he is doing that very effectively himself. Where are the promised solar farms or hydro systems or wind farms? There should be new ones every year.
David Hellstrom, Gordon, NSW
Blind Freddy can see that Australia’s energy mix makes sense, as it follows the sensible imperative to avoid the “all eggs in one basket” energy risk (“To deliver security of supply, gas must play role”, 19/6).
Steve Ngeow, Chatswood, NSW
Why does Labor under Anthony Albanese and Jim Chalmers keep knocking nuclear power stations when every major economic power builds them in their own country? It’s absurd.
David Easton, Wamuran, Qld
Renewables are said to be unreliable but wind and solar have been burning holes in people’s wallets for the past two years.
Paul Haege, Darling Point, NSW
The LNP government that couldn’t build a canoe, a submarine or a commuter carpark is going to build seven nuclear reactors. What could possibly go wrong?
Fraser Buchan, Port Elliot, SA
Advice for those who feel anxious about the inexorable march of renewable forms of energy: invest in renewables, modestly if you like, as a kind of insurance. You will feel better instantly.
Craig Brown, Eaglehawk Neck, Tas
Australia has more than 70 years of nuclear expertise on a journey to become one of the world’s most sophisticated nuclear nations. Our nuclear reactor was installed in 1958.
Suzanne Blumer, Wembley, WA
RBA governor Michele Bullock isn’t telling Jim Chalmers how to do his job (“Treasurer on defensive as RBA raises alarm over big-spending budgets”, 19/6). She’s gently reminding him and the state treasurers what everyone in Australia already knows. If you want to be big spenders, inflation will never come down.
Ross McDonald, Gordon, NSW
On the contrary, Dr Chalmers, Michele Bullock is telling you how to do your job.
Lynda Morrison, Bicton, WA
