OK, enough already, we need an election
The Parliament is a dysfunctional mess characterised by the Liberals cannibalising themselves to the point where the country is incapable of being governed. Isn’t it time for Peter Cosgrove to earn his $425,000 salary, dismiss the feuding Liberals and call an election?
There has been so much hue and cry about the carnage done by Malcolm Turnbull to his own party. There is nothing unique in this. Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott unleashed their own wrecking balls when they were ousted. It was only Julia Gillard who stood out like a shining light by giving the magnanimous “gift of silence” to her successor.
I never had any time or respect for Julia Gillard as our prime minister, but I have changed my mind after her dignified departure from politics. Rudd, Abbott and Turnbull, take note.
It interesting that of the last five PMs, Julia Gillard is the only one that has “let go” and left Canberra to itself. In doing so she has won respect and is a fine ambassador for women in politics and for Australia
That’s a relief (“PM to end leadership turmoil”, 4/12). Scomo could still actually be around for the next election. l’d declare martial law, to be on the safe side, if l were him.
The latest move by the Liberals to maintain a leader is long overdue although Labor put in place the same safeguard and it has backfired on them as they are stuck with a dud leader.
Malcolm Turnbull , the Mark Latham of the Liberal Party.
Sir David Attenborough, that tiresome old insect-lecturer, says the collapse of our civilisation is on the horizon if no urgent action is taken against global warming (“Climate change outrunning us”, 4/12). He should know that no matter how far you travel, the horizon always recedes.
The 96-second KO of Anthony Mundine was certainly quick but not the quickest in Australian boxing history. In 1952, our Jimmy Carruthers dispatched South Africa’s Willie Toweel to win the world bantamweight crown in 79 seconds.
It’s a good news week when a cow from Myalup has more credibility and coverage than Anthony Mundine.
