Last Post: Dan Andrews and the government Victorians deserve
My reaction to Dan Andrews’ election victory is that voters get the governments they deserve. In this case it may be explained to a large degree by the fact that Victorians have, for too long and, since Jeff Kennett’s demise, had useless oppositions they didn’t deserve.

Victoria’s Nationals did well because they presented real policies, whereas the Liberals plagiarised Labor and the Greens. There is a lesson here for Peter Dutton and his multi-coloured party.

The Liberal Party deserved it for putting up a weak shadow of Labor. But we didn’t. Get back to core values.

John Cain and Joan Kirner’s Rust Bucket State will be made to look like Camelot before Daniel Andrews is finished and unfortunately Sir Lancelot is not yet on the horizon.

The parlous state of the Liberal Party throughout the nation is such that perhaps it should heed the words of Captain Lawrence Oates of the ill-fated Scott expedition to the Antarctic: “I’m just going outside and may be some time.”

Once upon a time, if a Victorian moved to Queensland it was said the IQ of both states went up. But after this last weekend, not so.
Peter Lauricella, Beerwah, Qld
Victorian voters have blown it again.

How do we throw Victoria out of the Federation?

The inevitable deluge of scorn and impatience will be dumped on Victoria by the rest of Australia for returning the Andrews government to power, but please spare a thought for the pitiful array of choices on offer – some of whom were simply unelectable. Yes, we Victorians will all reap the consequences of the election outcome regardless of whether we voted for Daniel Andrews or not.

The mention of George Best (Letters, 26-27/11) reminded me of an alleged interview with a journalist many years ago. The journalist asked George what had happened to the prodigious amounts of money that he had earned over his career. George replied that he had spent 90 per cent on fast cars, booze and women and the rest he had just frittered away.
