Last Post: coronation TV, oil and medals
Like King Charles, my wife and I tried olive oil from Israel. But the local stuff from Narrabri works best for us.

London certainly knows how to turn it on. Thousands of people were happy to stand in the rain to be at a celebration of welcome and joy. I somehow can’t see this happening at a procession of lethal and hideously expensive weapons in an authoritarian country. Maybe Beijing and Moscow could learn from the coronation and paint their horrible rockets and tanks in different colours to liven up their ceremonial parades.

Watching the number of men and women wearing decorations at the coronation, it occurred to me that Brits must get a medal for going to the toilet by themselves after lights out.

Congratulations to all personnel involved in the ABC’s pre-coronation television coverage for boosting commercial TV ratings.

Surely the most appropriate comment on the ABC coverage of the coronation is the old adage: Speech is silver but silence is golden.
Iain Pendrigh, Pt Lonsdale, Vic
I started watching the ABC’s coverage of the coronation, but after about 10 minutes of being lectured on colonialism and invasion I switched over to commercial TV. At least presenter Julia Baird had the grace to look distinctly uncomfortable. The occasion was uplifting and spectacular.

It’s as if after Stan Grant’s rancorous accusations of feeling “betrayed” by the ABC because of its respectful coverage of Queen Elizabeth’s death, Aunty felt it had to bend over backwards to appease his displeasure and unleash a torrent of bitter commentary.

An interesting front page photo in The Australian of the federal Treasurer reviewing his budget in his Canberra office. I recall a photograph of Gough Whitlam’s treasurer preparing his budget on a card table in his rented bungalow.

I do hope all the Australians who are about to receive increased payments, from aged care and childcare to single parents and pensioners, remember to thank the coal, oil and gas industries whose royalties have allowed the Treasurer to be so generous.
