Last Post: Campaign exposes a nation of weak leaders

A brilliant article by Greg Sheridan on the worst election campaign by our weak so-called leaders (“Is this our worst-ever election campaign?”, 15/4). Nothing has changed in the 63 years I’ve been a voter, it’s still the same old, same old.

Jim Davidson, Moorooka, Qld

Troy Bramston summed it up perfectly (“Dutton and his team not ready for prime time”, 15/4). The Coalition hasn’t done the work, and it hasn’t got the cattle.

Fraser Buchan, Port Elliot, SA

Peter Dutton is not ready for “prime time”, says Troy Bramston, while acknowledging the good work done by Dutton in his prior ministerial portfolios. So who makes the better prime minister – the adept campaigner like Anthony Albanese or the more astute politician like Dutton?

George Fishman, Vaucluse NSW

Anyone proposing that Peter Dutton and the Coalition team are not ready to lead the nation is being unreasonable. Those who believed three years ago that Albanese and his Labor team were ready to lead would be sorely disappointed with the outcome. The shadow frontbench is just as experienced as the Labor one of three years ago.

G. Clarke, Lindisfarne, Tas

We’re in the middle of what may be the most important election in the country’s history, and we’re fixated on Tanya Plibersek’s air swing greeting to the Prime Minister? Probably a fair comment on the content of the election debate.

John McHarg, Maylands, WA

Ignore defence at our peril (“Hip-pocket war drains khaki cash”, 15/4). Come on, Peter Dutton, make defence spending a priority. Everything else amounts to nought if we are threatened. Ask the Israelis.

Alex Cleave, North Fremantle, WA

Why would anyone vote for a major political party when they won’t tell you how they aim to defend us from an aggressive enemy in the next 10 years? We remain vulnerable and are patiently waiting for submarines in 25 years’ time.

John Langrehr, Leabrook, SA

Donald Trump is creating another swamp. Perhaps different to the one he seeks to destroy but now, on a global scale, a swamp all the same.

Peter M. Wargent, Mosman, NSW

Most bullies I have dealt with turn out to be “gutless”, and it appears Trump is no exception.

Mike Chapman, Double Bay, NSW

“Trump puts ayatollahs on notice” (Editorial, 15/4) has to be one of the most relevant Trump headlines in months.

John Houghton, The Gap, Qld
