Last Post: Biden’s pardon is a repeat of Yes Minister

Joe Biden said during the election campaign that he would not pardon his son Hunter. As Jim Hacker said in Yes Minister, the first rule of politics is never believe anything until it’s officially denied.

Love him or hate him, Donald Trump is already draining the swamp and wrong-footing his opponents (“Smart move to steal thunder from Biden”, 4/12). Who knows, maybe he can clean up Joe Biden’s mess and restore world order before it all goes completely pear-shaped. Nick Palethorpe, Turramurra, NSW

We may think that incoming president Donald Trump is erratic in his thinking but my suggestion would be to read what his pick for UN ambassador, Elise Stefanik, has to say about her positive attitude to Israel. A very impressive addition to his staff.

The Albanese-Wong Labor government continues to show its naivety at the UN. Palestinians only ever wanted a one-state solution and the extermination of the Jews.

The Commonwealth Bank posted almost a $10bn statutory full-year net profit after tax for 2023-24 yet has decided to charge a $3 withdrawal fee to its own customers in certain circumstances (“$3 fee to withdraw own cash”, 4/12).

Is it possible the state of emergency declared in South Korea could have been AI-generated?

Mike Stark, Carine, WA

Perhaps green cheese could be added to the fairytale list of unbelievables (“Empty slogans can’t hide the reality of renewable fairytale”, 3/12) being spun by the Right Thought renewables brigade (“Forget class, it’s ‘nobility of opinion’ that counts most”, 3/12).

Ann Rennie, Surrey Hills, Vic

For the first 10 years of my life, on a farm in southwest Western Australia, I lived without electricity. Given the damage Energy Minister Chris Bowen and Labor are doing to our once reliable power grid, I should have taken notes.

Steve Richardson, Mango Hill, Qld
