Last Post: Arson attack a reminder of the dangers of anti-Semitism
After the reported suspicious arson attack on a Jewish synagogue in Melbourne, I regretfully agree with deputy opposition leader Sussan Ley‘s comment that our once harmonious multicultural nation doesn’t feel that way any more, and that our nation is fraying at the edges. What a sad day for all Australians.

By trying to appease a vocal minority, the Albanese government has pulled the rug out from under Israel, which is fighting for its very existence. Australia should be ashamed of itself.

It looks as though Netanyahu’s withering putdown of the Albanese government was not only timely, but also 100 per cent correct. When you try to walk both sides of the street, like Albanese and much of his cabinet, all that happens is that you get run over.

The suspected deliberate fire at a Jewish synagogue in Melbourne is, I believe, a direct result of the anti-Semitism that has swept Australia this year, especially in our universities. Had stronger reaction to street marches and rabid public comments been made by the police and the federal government, then the displays of Jewish hatred could have been reduced.

Rowan Callick’s excellent article on Xi’s ongoing sacking of China’s military chiefs (“Xi’s military purges a test of power and paranoia”, 6/12) reflects one thing: Xi does not trust himself so how can he trust his closest advisers?

NSW’s ICAC has already destroyed the careers of three perfectly good premiers. Does it really need a fourth scalp under its belt?

It would seem that the sinking French and Australian economies are in lockstep. (“French economy is rudderless”, 6/12). One would hope that when Europe’s second-largest economy finds its tiller it will share its success secret with us. Looking at the RBA forecast, it is clear we require all the help we can get.

If we put the total picture together, the NDIS, childcare, and non-means-tested subsidies for electricity will eventually render us a socialist paradise. Just bad luck that productivity is going backwards and defence spending is inadequate to provide protection. This is the future?
