Last Post: ALP’s loony left, APY art scandal and Bay of Fires fizzler

It was interesting to read Greg Sheridan’s piece “PM right to ignore loony Labor Left” (24/7). Doesn’t anyone remember the time when Albanese WAS the loony Left?

Perhaps the opposition should be renamed the alternative when called to speak in parliament. It might jog its members’ memories as to why they are sitting there.

Why do I so rarely see, if ever, the cartoon commentary of Johannes Leak and John Spooner on ABC’s Insiders?

Your banner headline on page 6 on Monday screams, “A-list broker focus of insider trading feud”. I presume he will be – broker, that is.

If the nation’s most senior art academic is not good enough to be on the panel examining the white hands on Indigenous art scandal (“Art of war: ‘I’m not the right type of Aborigine’ ”, 24/7), heaven help the outcome.

I was sad to read the comprehensive article by John Carroll (“Death of the humanities”, 22-23/7), explaining the systematic dumbing down of our education system. Many older people who were not privileged enough to access tertiary education were at least taught how to read and to love the pastime, as well as a curiosity to learn why we were so fortunate. This facilitated access to all the knowledge of Western civilisation via public libraries. Now it seems both avenues will soon be gone along with our great Western success story.

Bay of Fires on the ABC is the worst TV show I have ever seen in my very long life. It casts aspersions on my pretty little mountain village where the locals are friendly, helpful and very welcoming to newcomers. I certainly made the right decision to dump the ABC in favour of Sky 10 years ago.

The article about the five tech breakthroughs that will define the next decade (22-23/7), specifically the one about future cultured meats, had me licking my lips. At present we eat only three species (chicken/beef/pork) out of a possible 10,000 meats on the planet, so the thought of tucking into elephant rissoles, wombat sausage and chimpanzee stir-fry without endangering any living animals sounds great.
