Last Post: Albo’s wayward flock

While the Christmas break gives Anthony Albanese the time to gather his wayward flock for some well-needed training, NDIS Minister Bill Shorten will be busy dusting off the box of curtains prematurely purchased in 2019.

You don’t have to be Albert Einstein to predict that the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be an unmitigated financial and organisational disaster (“Olympic Games costs must clear financial hurdles”, 5/12). The only proviso to this prediction is the likelihood of Annastacia Palaszczuk or a future Queensland premier doing a Dan Andrews and pulling out of the project.

Such a scenario is almost too ridiculous to contemplate and would totally demolish not only the state of Queensland’s reputation but also that of Australia’s.

In her interview with Laura Tingle on the ABC’s 7.30 program, Louise Adler was strident in her view that it was absolutely appropriate for the three actors to wear their political beliefs around their neck for all to see. Is this what a theatre experience is really about? Do I want to know or care about what Sydney Theatre Company employees think or believe?

US doublespeak from the Vietnam War: “We had to destroy the village in order to save it.”

Updated by Energy Minister Chris Bowen: “We have to destroy the environment in order to save it.”

Jennie George (Letters, 5/12), please come out of retirement and open the political batting.

Steve Wiblin, Hermit Park, Qld

Brendan Ryan, Mawson, ACT

Dubai’s COP28 will have at least 70,000 attendees. It obviously must be a lot of fun. I am now determined to attend the next summit, even though l can only afford to fly cattle class.

It’s about time the current Labor government stopped blaming the previous government for problems. It’s time to be proactive not reactive.
