Last Post: Albo, Liz and the poor folk of County Sussex

Assuming the office of prime minister with much goodwill, Scott Morrison and Boris Johnson went on to defeat Labor/Labour opponents Bill Shorten and Jeremy Corbyn. Phew. Arguably, both lost their way during Covid, surrendering far too much power for far too long to unelected health bureaucrats. A failure to stand up to the woke brigade together with their effusive go-along with net zero confirmed a mutual loss of mojo.

Anthony Albanese predictably proclaims he is looking forward to working with new British PM Liz Truss. Presumably Truss is aware that our PM’s lifelong modus operandi is to “fight Tories”.

Stephanie Millar, Cremorne, NSW

Anthony Albanese is obviously buoyed by his poll position and what he naively believes was a successful jobs summit last week. He is treating question time like a pantomime, displaying an unhealthy arrogance towards the opposition and the more than 50 per cent of the country who didn’t vote for him. Thankfully, the honeymoon clock is ticking.

I would have thought that the last federal election result made it abundantly clear that Australians do not want a combative style of parliament but one where there is greater co-operation. But sadly the headline on Simon Benson’s article, “Dutton finds a target for his troops to aim at” (6/9), suggests that some have not learnt that lesson.

Our tropical fruit season has just started and will continue for about six months. Our strike season has also started and will continue for at least three years.

Congratulations to The Australian. Tony Abbott’s article on India (“The democratic superpower we need”, 6/9) is the most optimistic thing I have seen in the media for a very long time. It gave me back some hope for the future.

Robyn Manoy, Darling Point, NSW

Great article by Tony Abbott about India. I like the idea of the 21st century being the Indian century. The world could do a lot worse.

Bill Stefaniak, Narrabundah, ACT

Alan Joyce should note that “self-praise is no praise at all” (“Qantas claims a significant turnaround”, 6/9).

Steve Ngeow, Chatswood, NSW

Surely the good folk of County Sussex deserve better.

Peter Griffiths, Scarborough, Qld
