Last Post: Airline upgrades, Covid miseries, Israel and Hezbollah, and blaming Biden

It would be interesting to read both Virgin and Qantas staff directives that seem to favour upgrades being offered to politicians rather than other frequent flyers.

Kingsley Sullivan, Mt Hawthorn, WA

While we bicker childishly about who got a free flight or an upgrade, who is giving their full attention to the running of our great nation?

Peter Searcy, Mile End, SA

So, Peter Dutton gets a free ride from Gina Rinehart and Bridget McKenzie doesn’t recall whether she accepted upgrades. What was that about throwing stones in glass houses? The stench of hypocrisy.

Fraser Buchan, Port Elliot, SA

The flip side to Victoria’s former chief health officer admitting to failing to communicate the government’s Covid decisions is that there is a lot of clarity in hindsight.

Steve Ngeow, Chatswood, NSW

The Covid report reminds Victorians, as if we could forget, of the miseries we endured during the excessively harsh restrictions imposed on us by the state government. Nor can we forget the unhealthy zeal with which the police enforced ludicrous rules by which, for example, you could visit a brothel but not invite a friend for lunch. No wonder public trust in government has been “eroded”.

Sally Graham, Malvern, Vic

Hezbollah has reportedly said it was ready to withdraw beyond the Litani River, and to remove all its weapons from the zone between the Litani and the border with Israel (“Hezbollah ‘ready to withdraw beyond the Litani river’”, 31/10). So Israel’s tough policy is working and producing results – who would’ve thought?

Ramesh Thakur, Ocean Shores, NSW

Any governments that come out and say, unequivocally, under no circumstances will there be wind machines in our oceans will be on a massive vote winner.

Mark Postle, Mundubbera, Qld

Joe Biden was portrayed as senile and incapable of remaining in office. The Democrats realised this and replaced him with a younger and saner candidate. Now this doddery old man makes a statement commensurate with his mental state and everybody is falling over themselves, shouting how wicked it was and how it will ruin Democrat chances. Biden is not the candidate. So the entire episode merely reinforces that the Democrats made the right decision.

Janusz Bonkowski, Sunshine Beach, Qld
