It’s all coming together for JD Vance.

It’s all coming together for JD Vance. First he is Donald Trump’s VP nominee and now he’s in “a texting relationship” with Kevin Rudd.

The working class and Middle America now support Donald Trump and the Republicans while the moneylenders now support Joe Biden and the Democrats. What a difference a messiah can make.

I trust the members of the Cbus industry super fund are aware and supportive of their money being donated to the CFMEU and, in turn, donated to the Labor Party.

Lindsay Binning, Scarborough, WA

I expect to read that Employment and Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke has deregistered the CFMEU about the same time as Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen considers nuclear in the energy mix.

Michael Saul, Scarborough, Qld

Anthony Albanese delivers a neat line in moral equivalence. Any mention of anti-Semitism is always matched by Islamophobia. Now he tells us, regarding the CFMEU, “If there’s a corrupt union that means there’s also a corrupt boss.” Really? It could equally mean there’s a corrupt political party pocketing $6m in donations, no questions asked.

I am so impressed with senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s coherent, objective and
well-researched essay, Look Back, Move Forward, in The Weekend Australian’s 60th Anniversary Collector’s Edition. Her balanced views are refreshing and hopefully initiate a positive way forward in our country’s reconciliation and efforts to close the gap. I agree that “we need a second way” and this is what was missing from the referendum proposal.

So nuclear power is “simply incompatible” with renewables (“ ‘Incompatible’: new nuke attack”, 17/7)? As superficial as that argument is, does Energy Minister Chris Bowen realise he has opened up a whole new line of thinking in favour of nuclear power for baseload generation in Australia?

Phillip Hutchings, Birkdale, Qld

The sheer hypocrisy of Australia’s energy policy makes one wonder about the average intelligence of the federal government. We sell our good coal to China to burn in their dirty power stations and power their industries. Meanwhile, we pat ourselves on the back as we deprive Australian industries of power.

Marian Hinwood, Elsternwick, Vic
