Is this man up to leading us through danger and difficulty?

Just watched Albo (5/5) blow it again – he did not know the six points of the ALP NDIS policy. As we all remember, he could not give the unemployment rate or the RBA cash rate.

How you can have an economic plan without knowing these two basic but critical figures is beyond me. Earlier in the morning I watched Joe Biden bumbling his way through an interview. Could these two men be related?

Jennifer Ashton, Gold Coast, Qld

Troy Bramston (3/5) may say Albo has been reinvented. Unfortunately, he looks so uncomfortable in his new makeover, so rehearsed, as though he has spent hours in front of the mirror practising his body language, hand gestures, and corny finger inverted commas, it’s almost painful watching him. A leopard and spots, I’m thinking.

Beverley Roberts, Port Melbourne, Vic

Watching Anthony Albanese being interrogated by the media about the NDIS reminded me of Bambi facing a wolf pack. Questions were designed to draw blood rather than to inform the public about a vital policy. If the choice is between a politician who could regurgitate the six points of Labor’s NDIS plan and one who was genuinely concerned about people living with disabilities, I know which one I would choose.

Ed Sianski, West Moonah, Tas

It is becoming increasingly obvious why Labor opted for a small-target strategy and why it did not want its leader on the hustings trying to explain and sell policy.

John McLeod, Sunshine Coast, Qld

Cameron Milner (“Talk of a big win defies Labor’s seat by seat tally”, 4/5) forensically goes through the seats Labor needs to win, and ends by stating Australia needs to see the “real Albo”.

Cameron, Australia has seen the real Albo when he did not have a clue what the unemployment rate was, nor the RBA interest rate. The real Albo has even invented a new dance number, the Albo shuffle, which he goes into when asked about any policies, including his own – step forward to get a question, back two steps to put your nearest partner forward to answer for you, forward two steps to answer the next question, back two steps, and so on. The real Albo does not even understand policies he launched this week, so to expect him to understand complex policy such as border protection or China’s military threat or even our economy is a bridge too far. Albo is not in a fit state to be an Australian prime minister.

Gerry Jongebloed, South Plympton, SA

We should be grateful for the timely article by Troy Bramston (“The remarkable reinvention of hard-left Albo”, 3/5). Are we to believe that a former socialist who once wanted our foreign policy “to align with a coalition of Marxist-Leninist guerrilla groups” has somehow changed his views sufficiently to become our prime minister? To be our principal point of contact with our main ANZUS ally at perhaps the most serious time for our national security since World War II?

Decisions taken during the next three years and beyond, in partnership with the US, will impact our future; that of New Zealand and many island groups right down to the mineral resources of the Antarctic.

We already know of Mr Albanese’s extremely negative views on anything nuclear, in contrast to our main ally. Should he form a coalition with the Greens and the so-called teal independents, our crucial alliances will be tested and put very much at risk.

David Burt, Peppermint Grove, WA

Let’s face it, Anthony Albanese is a Bidenesque dud. What was Labor thinking when they have stars like Jim Chalmers and Tanya Plibersek?

Iain Rae, Palmwoods, Qld

The sudden faux effusiveness from Tanya Plibersek in support of Anthony Albanese, convinces me that another Rudd-Gillard scenario is waiting in the wings.

Blade Johnstone, Wellington Point, Qld

That Mr Albanese deflects reporters’ questions to his sidekicks indicates a lazy man not on top of the detail of his own party’s policies. That he remembers being an economic adviser in the Hawke government indicates a faulty memory. Fine suits and glasses combined with burning ambition do not a prime minister make.

HT Beech, Toowoomba, Qld
