Gormless, gutless or green?

Queenslanders’ election day choice: gormless, gutless or, worse still, green?

Jim Taylor, Brisbane, Qld

We should not be surprised at the mess in Queensland, which is only overshadowed by Victoria’s plight under Daniel Andrews (“Sunshine State rivals Victoria in dire debt stakes”, 25/10). Coincidentally, a decade ago both states threw out one-term Coalition governments for trying to balance the books.

John Morrissey, Hawthorn, Vic

Should this Queensland Labor government be returned on Saturday, we shall know many Queenslanders can be successfully bribed.

Claire Joliffe, Buderim, Qld

Just when you think you’ve heard all manner of excuses from past treasurers, Jim Chalmers fronts up at IMF and G20 meetings in Washington and blames the Middle East for his economic woes.

George Fishman, Vaucluse, NSW

Having blamed everyone else but himself for inflation, our Treasurer is now blaming the Middle East for inflation. Will he narrow down the fault to Israel, or Hamas and Hezbollah? Take a guess.

John Colebatch, Kelso, NSW

It looks like Jim Chalmers is setting up war in the Middle East as his “the dog ate my homework” excuse for persistent inflation in the lead-up to the next election.

Mitch McDonald, Abbotsford, NSW

Well done, Jim, nice diversionary tactic.

Alex Cleave, North Fremantle, WA

How remarkable it is that Bowen’s rip and tear of the environment for his “renewables” transmission lines doesn’t seem to have encountered one sacred site for Plibersek to cancel an operation.

Graeme Garde, Coolum Beach, Qld

Chris Bowen, you should tune into Frank Sinatra’s final performance of My Way. At the end of the concert the lights went out. Maybe you have bitten off more than you can chew.

Nick Palethorpe, Turramurra, NSW

An increasingly nasty US election is down to its last throw of the dice. Trump appears to be gaining ground, and desperation now besieges Kamala Harris and her disbelieving supporters. Regrettably, the Democrats have chosen the last two cards in the pack, accusing Trump of being a fascist and a Hitler clone.

Rosemary O’Brien, Ashfield, NSW
