Frustration with justice system felt by all who are wrongly accused

The anger, frustration and disgust evident in Greg Craven’s response to the treatment of Linda Reynolds and Fiona Brown are sentiments shared by all Australians interested in justice for those who have been wrongly accused (“Mean Girls remake, coming to political theatre near you”, 27/11).

After reading the excellent articles by Greg Craven and Janet Albrechtsen dissecting the litigation by the former defence minister Linda Reynolds and her former chief of staff Fiona Brown, it is quite evident that to consider calling the commonwealth a model litigant is the finest example to date of an oxymoron.

Dennis Bluth, Cammeray, NSW

Increasingly, Australia’s leading progressive female politicians – Larissa Waters, Zali Steggall, Penny Wong and Katy Gallagher – resemble modern day Greek Furies … mythological goddesses of relentless vengeance and retribution and unforgiving arbiters of ideological purity.

I grew up in a world of women with covered heads and long dark clothing. We called them nuns. So Pauline Hanson, what’s your point?

David Coggins, Noosa, NSW

The PM says more still needs to be done to tackle the rising cost of living (“The Christmas grimace: CPI, rates tracking north”, 27/11). Perhaps he could use the extra federal public servants (numbers up 24.7 per cent) to help share the load and get this work done.

The Labor-Greens alliance has now firmly pitted Australia against France and the UK in the race to the bottom.

Greg Paul, Yallingup, WA

It was pleasing to see that the Governor-General, Sam Mostyn, was able to meet with Zhao Leji to discuss “issues of women’s rights and climate change” (“Beijing more transparent than PM? Go figure”, 27/11). One hopes she took him to task on the CCP’s construction of one new coal-fired power plant a week.

Mitch McDonald, Abbotsford, NSW

The aggressor, President Vladimir Putin, is not interested in a fair peace deal with Ukraine; he expects a blatantly pro-Russian one.

Ken Moore, Chapel Hill, Qld

The Liberals now have female leadership at federal, state and Territory level. I’m absolutely fine with petticoat government: remember, Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did – backwards and in high-heels.

Terry Birchley, Bundaberg, Qld
