Banducci heads to self-checkout
Russ Fathers ponders why Alexei Nalvany didn’t enjoy the sympathy and perceived injustice that Julian Assange has been afforded in the West (Last Post, 21/2). An interesting question given that one of them is a courageous patriot who stood up to the brute Vladimir Putin. The other is a keyboard coward who betrayed the US and put the lives of servicemen at risk.

So Woolworths chief executive Brad Banducci has checked out. Presumably that was self-checkout, since checkout operators are well nigh extinct (“Defiant Banducci insists he wasn’t forced to the Woolies checkout”, 22/2).
Roseanne Schneider, Toowoomba, Qld
Brad Banducci’s express checkout has provided a valuable lesson to big corporations. Don’t get involved in woke political causes or try to denigrate our national day, because hordes of your customers won’t forgive your unsolicited interference.
T. Trotter, Brisbane, Qld
Brad Banducci should have just stuck to his knitting, shouldn’t he?

Within a couple of days after Hamas’s merciless and depraved murderous attack on Israel, in Sydney pro-Palestinian activists were already chanting “get the Jews”, or “where are the Jews?”, or “gas the Jews”; it really doesn’t matter because they all mean the same thing. But why is it that only Western countries are responsible for providing aid and shelter when there are very wealthy Arab states with direct religious, historic and cultural links with Palestinians, yet they only provide them with lip service and weapons with which to kill Israelis?

Paul Kelly is correct to highlight the shocking anti-Semitic views permeating the Greens (“Our nation no longer comprehends what is happening to itself”, 21/2). The moral question is whether Labor will preference the Greens last in the upcoming federal election.

The closure of 650 Westpac branches in regional and rural areas shows just how out of touch the “head honchos” are with their customers and how beholden they are to shareholders (“Westpac’s ‘Mr Bean’ email: a symbol of banks’ disconnect with rural communities”, 22/2).
Penni Seignior, Mudgeeraba, Qld
The Prime Minister says he is a real “Swiftie”. But we already knew that, didn’t we?
