Harry and Meghan’s appalling take-down of Catherine over the past few years merits a silence at best

The world has been informed of the Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis, their children have been told their mother will be going through an uncomfortable time in the coming months and the family has gone to their favourite place, Anmer Hall, for the next few weeks for the school holidays.

So who interrupts Catherine and Prince William’s desire for peace, space and privacy? None other than that couple across the Atlantic who have to turn every royal announcement into a “look at me” opportunity for themselves.

Blindsided that they had no advance notice of Catherine’s video message imparting the huge shock she had received about her health while recovering from major abdominal surgery, the publicists for celebrity non-royals Prince Harry and wife Meghan have now made it known that Harry has extended an olive branch to his older brother in what they say could repair the royal rift.

The UK Telegraph reported that Harry had “privately” made contact with both Prince William and the princess, while Meghan had “also been in touch”.

Apparently, Harry has even generously withdrawn his demands for an apology in order to worm his way back into the inner sanctum of the royal family.

We don’t need to know William’s reaction, but we can all imagine it.

Even the Sussexes public message raised eyebrows – their casual reference to “Kate” when the family call the princess by her preferred name Catherine, was odd.

Their message too, referencing “health and healing” both “privately and in peace” just a day before we hear – loud and clear – how they had made contact brings back memories of Megxit and their desire for privacy – while spilling family tales to talk show hosts.

Harry and Meghan’s appalling take-down of Catherine over the past few years merits a silence at best.

William, after all, knows Harry and Meghan can’t be trusted and doesn’t need any more stressful interventions from the Sussexes who had made the late Queen Elizabeth’s final months such a cruel and perplexing time.

Remember too how Meghan’s mouthpiece, Omid Scobie, wrote that Catherine had been one of the royal racists? Then there was the brouhaha over the bridesmaids stockings and who made who cry and how Meghan whinged that Catherine didn’t give her a hug, and didn’t take her shopping?

In Britain at least, the public view is that Catherine, rather than having a less than desirable personality, has impeccable instincts.

Incredibly, Harry hasn’t taken the hint thank-you-very-much-the-family-doesn’t-need-help after the cancer diagnosis of King Charles. Queen Camilla, another woman Harry has shockingly derided, very quickly saw to that.

Just last week the Sussexes timed their latest commercial venture, having Meghan styled as the next homewares and cooking guru – pictured in the promo, as you do, in an extravagant ballgown – on the very hour William was acknowledging 25 years of the Diana Award, set up in memory of their late mother.

Timing, as they say, is everything, and Harry and Meghan’s bizarre, if not well meaning attempt to insert themselves into the family’s biggest personal ordeal is strange indeed.
