Simpler times when Bronwyn Bishop was sticking it to the pinkos

The former speaker came to the rescue with socialists and sots, but amazingly it didn’t work.

Bronwyn Bishop defending Sussan Ley on Sky News on Monday:

I do know there are socialists out there who want to attack free enterprise and anyone who sticks up for it. And I know that socialists, like alcoholics, will blame anyone but themselves. Whereas alcoholics can damage their own families, socialists can destroy the whole country … Socialists will always blame anyone but themselves.

No socialists cited. Sussan Ley in her resignation statement yesterday:

Whilst I have attempted at all times to be meticulous with rules and standards, I accept community annoyance, even anger, with politicians’ entitlements demands a response and I wholeheartedly support the reforms announced by the Special Minister of State earlier this week.

Malcolm Turnbull during his press conference yesterday:

I have to say I hate the term “entitlements”.

Happier times. Turnbull trying to get things back on track at the end of his press conference:

Can I just say — we have had the last question. I just want to say that tomorrow I look forward to seeing some of you again when I will be hosting the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe. We have a very important agenda to discuss. Trade, regional security, global economic developments. Japan and Australia are great friends. We have a great collaboration. And the economic agenda, on the strategic agenda and Shinzo Abe himself is a great friend of Australia, and Lucy and I look forward to welcoming him and Mrs Abe to Australia tomorrow.

All that glisters ... Associated Press yesterday:

Actor Jane Fonda has said that people should not be fooled by “good-looking liberals” such as the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, who “disappointed” her by approving pipelines from the Alberta oil sands. Fonda said after touring the oil sands area that environmentalists everywhere were impressed by Trudeau at the Paris climate conference in late 2015. “We all thought, well, cool guy,” Fonda said. “What a disappointment.”

But wait, there’s more! Fonda keeps carpet-bombing:

“He talked so beautifully of needing to meet the requirements of the climate treaty and to respect and hold to the treaties with indigenous people. Such a heroic stance he took there, and yet he has betrayed every one of the things he committed to in Paris.” Fonda, on a trip organised by Greenpeace, is calling for a stop to pipelines and oil sands development. “I guess the lesson is we shouldn’t be fooled by good-looking liberals no matter how well-spoken they are,” Fonda said.

But is it art? Indian Country Media Network on Thursday:

New York City’s Museum of Modern Art has apologised to the Native American community after attendees at a performance on January 8 were shocked and enraged by a performance of the French artist Latifa Laabissi, who performed nude wearing a Lakota Plains-style faux headdress. … During the performance, which has travelled internationally, Laabissi — who was raised in France by Moroccan-born parents — enters a white stage, nearly nude, wearing only the faux headdress and a small scarf-like French flag. She writhes on the floor, contorts her face and force-feeds herself the flag.
